BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday in the CCIW Tournament championship, falling to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 4-2.
After a scoreless first inning, the Titans struck first in the bottom of the second on a solo home run. Augie answered in the top half of the third, pushing one across after seeing the first two batters reach base.
McKensey Stontz earned an RBI for the team after a ball hit to second was bobbled and allowed
Teagan Nees to score. Another home run from Illinois Wesleyan, this time a two-run shot in the bottom of third, moved the home team back out in front by a score of 3-1.
Emma Evans and
Emily Gad each collected hits in the top of the fourth, which led to the Vikings' second run following a wild pitch.
Marley Behm began the fifth with a leadoff triple, but was unable to come in for the equalizing score. A double steal in the bottom of the fifth by the Titans created a 4-2 advantage and IWU worked around a hit by
Meghan Nixon in the seventh to escape with the two-run victory.
The Vikings out-hit the Titans 5-4 in the loss, with five different players securing hits.Â
Augie concludes the season with 28-14 record, the first time reaching that win total since the 2015 season.
