BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- For the first time since the 2020-21 season, the Augustana Vikings men's tennis team has won the CCIW regular season title. The Vikings claimed a share of the crown following a 7-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday.
Augie grabbed the doubles point following wins in two of the three matches.
Aingeru Garcia and
Santiago Diaz were victorious at No. 2 with a 6-2 decision, while
Timothee Philip and
Saman Rezaeyan won their contest at No. 3 by an identical score.
In singles, all six matches went in favor of the Vikings. Garcia made quick work of his opponent at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while
Arthur Hermange took down his counterpart at No. 1 by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Elsewhere, Rezaeyan won with a pair of 6-3 scores at No. 2, Diaz defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and
Kay Woldringh Castillo came out on top at No. 5 by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Philip won the lone three-set match at No. 4.
With the victory, Augustana finishes the regular season 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW, good for a three-way tie for first place. The Vikings will be the No. 3 seed in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament and will face No. 6 seed Millikin on Thursday at home.Â
