Baseball falls to North Central

MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team fell to the North Central Cardinals on Wednesday by a final score of 11-3. 

In the opening inning, North Central scored four to take the early lead. In the bottom of the first, the Vikings collected three consecutive hits to get on the board, with Dymitri Kanellakis bringing in Augie's first run. Both teams put up goose eggs in the second to hold the score at 4-1.

The Cardinals crossed home in the top of the third to stretch the gap to 5-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Theile hit his first career home run on a full count to create a 5-2 score. 

North Central put up two runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to run away with the 11-2 game. In the bottom of the eighth, Michael Aragon notched an infield single with the bases loaded to score Charlie Bergin, who reached base on a single and advanced on a fielder's choice and wild pitch. 

As a team, Augie collected seven hits, with Hackman and Bergin leading with two apiece. 

With the loss, the Vikings move to 17-15 on the season and 6-8 in conference play. The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow, April 24, to host Knox.
