ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team collected a win in its final home match of the season on Thursday, knocking off the Loras Duhawks by a score of 4-3.
The doubles point went in favor of Augie after the Vikings picked up wins in two of the three matches.
Hannah Colbert and
Colleen Larry won a 6-3 decision at the No. 1 spot, while
Natasha Gauerke and
Maripaz Ramirez were victorious at No. 2 by a score of 6-4. Augustana led 1-0 entering singles play.
Ramirez continued her success on the day with a straight-set win at No. 2 by a final of 6-3, 7-5, while
Maddy Harned also made quick work of her opponent with a score of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Larry earned a win at No. 3 in consecutive sets, using a tiebreaker in the second to earn a 6-2, 7-6. Loras won the remaining matches, including a pair of three-set decisions at No. 1 and No. 4, but the Vikings already won the clinching point to take the match, 4-3.
With the win, the Viking improve to 5-12 on the season. The team will be back in action on April 24 for a CCIW Tournament contest vs. Wheaton.
