MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the Cornell Rams on Thursday by a score of 10-2.
Alex Masterson scored the first goal of the game at 12:22 to grab the early advantage. Cornell followed with four of their own to make a 4-1 score after 15 minutes of play. In the second quarter, both teams remained scoreless heading into halftime.
Returning to the field, neither team scored until 5:11 when the Rams tallied two more. With 1:13 remaining, Kyla Painter notched a goal off of a pass from Elena Bechard to make a 6-2 game entering the final quarter. In the fourth, Cornell put up four more points to secure the 10-2 win.
Augie had 10 shots on goal, with Madison Langewisch leading with four. Painter caused three turnovers and Dylon Karjalahti saved nine shots in her 45 minutes in goal.
With the loss, the Vikings move to 2-2 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, March 8 to battle Marian on the road.
