WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team dropped a low-scoring affair with the Ramapo Roadrunners on Saturday, falling by a score of 1-0 in their second game of the RussMatt Invitational.
Each team began the game with a base runner, but neither could move a runner into scoring position until
Alec McGinnis doubled to left center with one out in the third. Augie was unsuccessful getting him around to score, but again saw another reach second base in the following frame after
Dymitri Kanellakis led things off with a walk and a steal. Neither team scratched across anything after six innings of scoreless play.
Ramapo tallied an unearned run off of starting pitcher
Chance Carruthers in the top of the seventh for the first and only tally of the morning. Carruthers struck out nine in 6.1 innings of work and struck out the leadoff batter for the Roadrunners in four of the six innings he started. Augustana threatened in the bottom half of the eighth following a leadoff single from
Ryan Coon, but stranded him at second.
With the loss, the Vikings drop to 8-5 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow vs. No. 16 UW-La Crosse.
