Men’s volleyball falls to No. 13 Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team fell to the Loras Duhawks on Wednesday in three sets with set scores of 25-11, 25-17, and 26-24.  

Loras secured the first set by 14 points to take the overall advantage of 1-0. In the second set, Augie grabbed the early lead after a 4-1 run. The Duhawks got within one before a kill by Zach Moreano moved the advantage back out to two. The Vikings stretched the gap to as many as four after back-to-back errors from Loras to make it an 11-7 game. The Duhawks collected the next six points to snatch the upper hand before a kill by Ben Schultz squashed the difference to one at 13-12. Loras converted a 6-2 run to lead by five and held the advantage for the remainder of the set to take the second set by eight points. 

The Duhawks secured the first three points in the third set and stretched the gap to as many as eight with a score of 14-6. The Vikings made a 5-1 run to get within four before finding four consecutive points to shrink the gap to one. Late in the set, Augie found five points to snatch the upper hand after back-to-back kills by Ryan Huntington at 22-21. Loras drew even after three successful attacks and Augie followed with two of their own after a kill by Schultz and an attack error by the Duhawks to tie at 24 apiece. Loras obtained the final two points to take the third set 26-24.

Moreano led the team with 10 kills and two blocks, while Colin Schaefer notched 21 assists and Max Sellers had six digs.  

With the loss, Augie moves to 11-9 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. The team will be back in action on Saturday, March 22 for a non-conference battle against Clarke.
