RANTOUL, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team dropped its first contest of a three-game weekend in Rantoul on Saturday, falling to the Beloit Buccaneers by a score of 5-2.
Following a scoreless opening inning, Beloit got on the board first in the second inning with an unearned run. The one-run margin remained intact for the next two innings, but the Vikings scratched across their first of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth.
Daniel Mosele began the frame with a single before moving all the way around the bases after an error, flyout, and passed ball.
The Buccaneers broke the 1-1 tie with a four-spot in the top half of the seventh, pushing across the four runs on four hits. Augie earned one back in the bottom half on an
Alec McGinnis sac fly, but left the bases loaded with just the one run sent home. Beloit halted another Augustana scoring threat in the eighth before sealing the game in the ninth to complete the 5-2 win.
The Vikings posted six hits in the loss, with Mosele notching three of them in his three appearances.
With the loss, Augie drops to 1-2 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow vs. Northland and Loras.
