ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team is set to host the MSOE Raiders on Wednesday, February 26 for their home opener at Thorson-Lucken Field.
The Vikings sit at 0-1 on the season and return to action after a 21-4 loss against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday. UW-Eau Claire scored five in the first nine minutes before Elena Bechard scored Augie's first goal with a pass from Madison Langewisch to make a 5-1 score. The Blugolds notched six more goals to make an 11-1 score after 15 minutes of play. In the second quarter, Becca Lacina and Anna Erickson notched goals but UW-Eau Claire led 15-3 heading into halftime.
Returning to the field, UW-Eau Claire scored five times, while holding Augie scoreless to enter the final 15 minutes of play with a 20-3 score. In a low-scoring final quarter, the Blugolds grabbed their lone goal early in the quarter before Langewisch notched one of her own. Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game. Dylon Karjalahti saved nine shots in goal.
MSOE will open their season on Wednesday after finishing last season with a 4-10 record. The Raiders return top scorer Lily Johnson who collected 30 goals and won 47 draw controls in 14 games and Vayda Flower who posted 15 assists. Alana Perry is also back for MSOE who caused 25 turnovers and Molly Benjamins who saved 36 shots in goal.
The Raiders hold a 1-0 all-time series record over Augie, with MSOE winning the lone matchup last season in Milwaukee, Wis. by a score of 11-7.
