MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team will play its second straight game away from home on Wednesday, February 26 when they take on the Cornell Rams in a non-conference battle.
Augie is 0-1 on the season and returns to action following a 22-7 loss at Clarke on Sunday. The Pride had a big opening quarter, out-scoring the Vikings 7-0 in the first 15 minutes to grab the early advantage. Clarke's scoring run reached nine early in the second quarter, but an unassisted by goal byÂ
Tommy Wimmers put the Vikings on the board. Five minutes later,Â
Jake Moore notched the second goal of the frame to keep the gap in single figures, but the Pride secured the final two tallies of the opening half to take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break.
Clarke out-scored Augustana 6-1 in the third quarter, with the lone strike for the Vikings coming fromÂ
Charley Dore around the seven-minute mark. Augie had the upper hand through the final 15 minutes of play, posting a slight 4-3 advantage in fourth quarter to close out the game at its 22-7 final.Â
Wyatt Dosek began a streak of four straight goals scored for the team around the 12-minute mark beforeÂ
Jack Sergeant notched his first of the season at 7:12. Moore and Dosek accounted for the final two tallies of the game for Augie to give each of them multi-goal efforts.Â
Keegan Weir saved 12 shots in net for the Vikings, while Moore and Sergeant were responsible for the two assists for the team.
Cornell enters Wednesday with an 0-1 record, dropping their season opener to CCIW foe Carroll by a score of 7-5. The Rams went without a goal through the first three quarters and found themselves trailing 5-0 entering the final period. The Rams rattled off the first four tallies of the fourth to pull within one, but gave up consecutive scores to fall behind by three before notching the final point of the contest. Charley Kobets scored a pair of man-up goals in the loss for Cornell and returns this season after ranking second on the team in 2024 in goals with 24. The Rams were 6-9 last season and 3-3 on their home field.
Augustana has won all nine meetings against Cornell, including last season's 9-7 victory at home. Moore had a goal for the Vikings in the win.
