ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will play in its final regular season contest of the season on Saturday, February 22 when it hosts the No. 11 ranked Illinois Wesleyan Titans for Senior Night.
Augustana enters with a 15-9 overall record and 8-7 mark in the CCIW. The team has won five of its last six games, including a 101-76 home victory over Wheaton last time out.
Tyler Knuth poured in a career-high 35 points on 11-20 shooting to go with five made threes, moving him into No. 13 all-time on the Augustana scoring list. After leading by 16 at the break, Knuth put up eight straight points within the first three minutes of the half to help push Augie's margin out to 26 before a layup fromÂ
Staishaun Kelley five minutes in moved it to 27. The lead for the Vikings never dipped below 22 the rest of the way and a three-pointer byÂ
Dom Rhoden with three minutes remaining gave Augie its first lead over 30 points. The benches emptied for the remaining time and aÂ
Justin Garcia three-pointer moved Augustana over the century mark for the second time this season.Â
A total of 14 Vikings scored in the win, but the day was highlighted by Knuth's 35 points on 11-20 shooting and five made threes. Kelley also added double-digit points in just 17 minutes off the bench to go with his two steals.Â
Mike Hamilton was tied for the game's leading rebounder with 10. As a team, Augie shot 49 percent from the field and 41 percent from three, hitting 7-12 from distance in the second half.Â
Illinois Wesleyan enters with a 20-4 overall record and 12-3 mark in the CCIW, recently picking up its second straight win on Wednesday with an 87-81 victory at home over North Park. The Titans led by four at 50-46 after a high-scoring opening half before building a second-half advantage for a majority of the second half. The Vikings used a late run to inch closer, but it was not enough to catch up as the Titans earned their 10th win at home this season. Five different players notched double figures for IWU, led by Harrison Wilmsen's 17 points. Trey Bazzell also added 16 off the bench. The Titans are 7-3 on the road this season, with their last game away from the Shirk Center resulting in an 85-74 loss at Carthage. The team is looking to snap a streak of two straight defeats on the road.
Saturday will be the 182nd all-time meeting between the two programs, with Illinois Wesleyan holding an 102-79 advantage in the series. The Titans won in Bloomington earlier this year by a score of 82-52.
Start time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
