Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team went 1-1 to open the season on Friday, falling to the No. 24 ranked Rhodes Lynx by a score of 6-3 before taking down the Webster Gorloks with a final of 5-1.
After a pair of scoreless innings, Rhodes put up a run first in the bottom of the third to grab the early lead. In the fourth, Grant Biggins singled to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch to bring Daniel Mosele up to bat. Mosele moved Biggins to third after a single down the middle and Colton Davis brought Biggins home and Mosele to second to even the game at one apiece. Both runners advanced after a wild pitch by the Lynx before Riley Hendren doubled to left to add two more runs and snatch the 3-1 advantage.
Rhodes responded in the fifth inning with a solo home run to move the game to 3-2. Both teams remained scoreless until the Lynx added three in the bottom of the seventh and another run in the eighth to take the 6-3 game.
As a team, the Vikings obtained eight hits with Ryan Coon leading with two.
In game two vs. Webster, Coon led off the game with a base hit for the second straight contest, later coming around to score on an RBI by Kaileb Hackman. Two innings later, Hackman started the scoring for the Vikings with a leadoff walk before Alex Simon made it two runners on base with a single. Two batters later, a two-out double by Michael Aragon extended Augie's lead out to 3-0.
Augustana manufactured two more runs in the eighth to push the advantage out to five. Webster added one in the bottom half to get on the board, but a three-up, three-down ninth from Cameron Miller closed out the 5-1 victory.
Ethan McGraw earned the win on the mound, striking out six batters and allowing just one hit in four innings. Coon secured two hits in the win, while Hackman reached base four times.
Augie will be back in action next weekend for a three-game series against Luther in Kansas.
