Men's basketball falls to No. 17 UW-Oshkosh

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team fell to the No. 17 UW-Oshkosh Titans on Sunday by a score of 84-77. 

In the opening half, the teams traded shots in a low-scoring three minutes of play. The Titans followed with a 9-2 run to lead at 11-6. Both teams went back and forth with shots before Andre Klaver collected three points to get within four. The Vikings saw this two more times before a free throw by Klaver squashed the gap to as much as three. UW-Oshkosh tallied the next seven points to pull the gap ahead once more. With under a minute remaining in the period, the Titans outscored Augie 5-2 to lead 50-35 entering halftime.

Returning to the court, both teams saw a low-scoring three minutes before a three-point shot by Ray Maurchie began a scoring run. Dani Romero and Marieon Anderson followed with successful shots to get to 10 at 53-43. A three-pointer from Eli Aldana moved the Vikings under double digits, but UW-Oshkosh advanced once more. Augie found this gap again at 3:29 when Anderson notched two shots at the charity line to get within eight with a 75-67 score. The Vikings squashed the differential to six after a free throw by Maurchie. The team saw this again after a layup by Rhoden before Anderson pulled within five with nine seconds remaining. The Titans tallied two at the charity stripe to close the game with a score of 84-77. 

Four Vikings notched double-digit points, with Anderson and Klaver leading with 11 points. Maurchie and Romero followed with 10, while Maurchie grabbed eight shots off the glass. 

With the loss, Augie moves to 3-3 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3, for the first CCIW battle against Wheaton.
