Men's soccer stellars on Senior Night versus Elmhurst

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Augustana men's soccer team closed out its regular season on Senior Night with a dominant 4–0 win over Elmhurst on Wednesday night at Thorson-Lucken Field.

Both sides traded possession through a defensive first frame. Augustana generated several chances, including shots from Matt Donaghey, Sergio Cano Minguet, Ethan Wheeler, and Zachary Beckman. William Gabrielsson and the Viking back line were equally sharp, limiting Elmhurst to just five total attempts before the break.

Momentum shifted quickly after halftime. In the 48th minute, Donaghey broke the deadlock with a left-footed deep strike to the top corner for a 1–0 lead. Less than 30 minutes later, Wheeler doubled the advantage with a high finish off Donaghey's assist, prompting a stretch of three goals in 10 minutes that sealed the result.

Donaghey struck again in the 77th minute, slotting home a low shot off a cross from Wheeler. The Vikings showed off their teamwork and capped the scoring in the 87th minute when Cano Minguet buried a low finish from just inside the box, assisted by Nick Sell and Donaghey.

Augustana and Elmhurst were even in shots 16–16; the Vikings' accuracy showed with 11 shots on target. Donaghey led the attack with two goals and two assists, while Wheeler added a goal and an assist, and Cano Minguet scored once on five attempts. Nico Linaje added two shots, and Beckman added another. Gabrielsson made three saves in goal but defended crosses well to limit the Blue Jays' attempts.

With the win, Augustana 4-8-3 closes its regular season on a high note.
