Box Score DECATUR, Ill. – The Augustana men's soccer team struck first but couldn't hold off a second-half surge from Millikin, falling 4–1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings controlled possession early and capitalized in the opening minute of the match. After earning a penalty,
Jamie K'Otieno converted from the spot to give Augustana a 1–0 advantage. The Big Blue found the equalizer in the 31st minute through Bryce Davis, who slotted home a finish from Ryder Ramson in the 31st minute to level the match 1–1. The Vikings generated multiple looks on frame, while goalkeeper
William Gabrielsson made five first-half saves to keep the score tied entering halftime.
Millikin regained momentum quickly after the break as Landon Welch converted from Kyle Grasse in the 48th minute to give the hosts the lead. The Big Blue pulled away late, with Grasse adding a goal of his own in the 86th minute before Welch tallied his second in the 88th minute to seal the 4–1 final.
Millikin held a 17–11 advantage in total shots and a 12–9 edge in shots on goal.
Matt Donaghey and
Alejandro Arana led the Vikings with two shots each.
Nico Linajey,
Diego San Pedro, and
Andres Gordilla all created quality shot attempts as well. K'Otieno scored the Vikings lone goal.
William Gabrielsson finished with 8 total saves.
With the result, Augustana moves to 3–8–3 overall and 1–5–1 in CCIW play. The Vikings will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to host Elmhurst for Senior Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
