Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team battled wire-to-wire in a defensive contest Wednesday night but fell 1–0 to the Carthage Firebirds.
 
Both sides traded early chances in a tightly played first half. Goalkeeper 
Sara Schinker anchored the Vikings with five saves in the opening 45 minutes, turning away several quality looks, including a low shot from Carthage in the 17th minute and another strike moments later. On the other end, 
Skylar Swanson provided consistent pressure, firing a pair of shots on frame, while 
Alyssa Mowry added another attempt that forced a stop from Carthage keeper. The teams entered the break scoreless, with Augustana holding the edge in possession and territory.
 
Carthage broke through early in the second half on a goal from Malie Cassel in the 55th minute. Despite the setback, the Vikings continued to press forward, generating several looks as 
Paige Allis and Swanson each recorded shots in the final 30 minutes. Schinker remained sharp in net, finishing with nine saves against 19 total shots faced.
 
Skylar Swanson would finish with four shots including one on goal, Jordan Swanson and Allis each added shot in the offensive zone.
 
With the result, Augustana moves to 3–11–2 overall and 0–6 in the CCIW. The Vikings will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they travel to face Millikin
