Men's soccer drops decision to Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team dropped a 3–1 decision on the road Wednesday night against the Carthage Firebirds.

Carthage jumped ahead early, Dennis Valle opened the scoring in the 10th minute finishing a counter off a Vikings corner kick to put the Firebirds up 1–0. Adrian Atanassov added to the lead in the 20th minute, converting a deflected cross to make it 2–0 midway through the half.

Augustana responded just before halftime when Jamie K'Otieno delivered a cross to Javi Landin, who buried a low shot to the right side in the 43rd minute, cutting the deficit to 2–1 heading into the break.

The Vikings carried that momentum into the second half, generating multiple chances, including attempts from Landin, Diego San Pedro, and Matt Donaghey. However, the Firebirds extended their advantage in the 61st minute when Eli Schoffstall found the net to make it 3–1. Despite sustained pressure late, including three shots in the in the 75th minute, Augustana couldn't close the gap.

Landin led the Vikings with five shots, including three on goal, while K'Otieno picked up the team's lone assist. Toby Dottin produced two shots and Alex Sanchez Collago recorded a shot on goal. Goalkeeper William Gabrielsson recorded five saves and faced 17 shots. As a team, Augustana outshot Carthage 16–18 overall, with eight on frame, and held a 9–5 advantage in saves.

With the result, Augustana moves to 3–7–3 overall and 1–4–1 in CCIW play. The Vikings will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, traveling to Millikin.
