MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Friday night, falling to the MSOE Raiders on the road.
After a back and forth start to the match that resulted in an early deadlock off 11-11, the Raiders broke away with a 6-1 run to pull out in front 17-12. Augie got within four on two separate occasions, but MSOE's second 6-1 scoring spurt of the frame propelled them to a 25-16 victory in the opening game.
In set two, the Raiders jumped out to an early lead of 15-8 and later pushed it out to eight at a score of 20-12. The Vikings charged back with five of the next six points, seeing kills from three different players during that span to cut the deficit to just four at 21-17. Following an MSOE point,
Ben Schultz connected on a kill before an attack error from the Raiders made it a three-point differential. The home team won three of the final four rallies to hang on for the 25-20 victory. MSOE used its momentum to complete the sweep with a 25-12 set-three victory.
Sean Carlson was the team leader for Augustana in kills with seven, followed by four each from Schultz,
Tom Lamb, and
Cole Clarke. Carlson also led the way with six digs, while
Colin Schaefer added 24 assists.
With the loss, Augie drops to 4-3 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow at Concordia (Wis.)
