MADISON, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team opens their 2025 season on Thursday, January 16 on the road against the Edgewood Eagles.
The Vikings return to action after a historic season last year with an overall record of 18-7, the most wins in program history. Augie finished conference play with a 5-5 record to place third in the conference tournament, which was the highest for the program since 2021. The team saw its season end in the CCIW semifinals, falling 3-1 on the road against Carthage. Max Sellers returns after earning CCIW All-Conference and CCIW's Defensive Player of the Year. Sellers was also the first for the men's volleyball program to be named CSC Academic All-America Team for the At-Large category and AVCA All-American. Ben Schultz also returns for the Vikings after being crowned the NCAA Division III's statistical champion in hitting a percentage, with .476 percent. Augie held a 6-3 away record in the 2024 season with their final two matches being against Carthage
Edgewood opens their season on Thursday after earning an 8-16 record in 2024. The Eagles return Gavin Patterson, who led Edgewood last season with 209 kills, 37 service aces, and 217 digs. Ryder Hill-Zastrow followed with 196 kills, and Will Gehrke notched 657 assists. The Eagles held a 1-6 record on home territory a season ago with their lone win being against St. Norbert.
Augie holds a 3-0 all-time series record over Edgewood. The Vikings swept the Eagles in three sets in the Carver Center last season. Garrett McNelis led with eight kills, while Schultz secured two solo blocks and one assisted.
