ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team dropped its CCIW opener on Saturday at home, falling to the Wheaton Thunder by a score of 7-0.

Wheaton grabbed all three doubles matches to begin the day to earn the point heading into singles. Both the tandems of Hannah Colbert and Colleen Larry at No. 1, and Maitreyi Shrikhande/Natasha Gauerke at No. 2 battled tough in their respective matches, but fell by a close 6-4 score.

In singles, all six contests went to the Thunder. The Vikings put up a strong fight at the back end of the lineup as Shrikhande won three games in each set at No. 5, while Maddy Harned lost by just two points in each of hers.

With the loss, Augie falls to 0-1 on the season. The team will be back in action on Friday, September 13 at Illinois Wesleyan.
