Women's soccer opens conference play in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will begin CCIW play on Saturday, September 28 when they head to the Windy City to take on the North Park Vikings.

Augie currently sits at 6-1-1 on the season, recently seeing its seven-game unbeaten stream come to an end on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss at Kalamazoo. Carson Kekelik notched the first goal of the game for the Vikings in the 17tth minute, but the Hornets saw one of their own right before halftime to bring a 1-1 score into the break. The home team broke the tie early in the second and added one more later in the game to hang on for the 3-1 victory. Liesl Whitener enters the weekend 12th in Division III with 1.25 goals per match. Whitener also ranks 14th nationally with 2.88 points per match and 25th nationally with 5.13 shots per match. She now has 80 career points for the Vikings, third-most among active CCIW players.

North Park enters Saturday's meeting with a 3-4 overall record. The Vikings have lost three of their last four, including a 6-3 defeat against Chicago in their most recent outing on Tuesday. North Park is winless this season on its home field, losing all three contests. Saturday will be the team's first game at home since September 11, which was a 3-1 loss against Illinois Tech. North Park is led this season in goals by Sofie Swedberg who has four on just six shots.

Augustana is 24-2-2 all-time against North Park and has won three of the last four encounters. Augie won last season's game in Chicago by a score of 2-0, with both goals coming from Whitener.
