CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 11 after a week off when they hit the road to battle the Coe Kohawks.
Augie enters with a 1-0-1 record after drawing even with Illinois College last Wednesday. Following a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Lady Blue earned the first tally of the game just six minutes in. From there, the two teams traded scoring opportunities, with the Vikings putting up a total of 11 shots in just the final 45 minutes. With 15 minutes remaining, the Vikings rattled off five straight shots over the span of eight minutes, with the final resulting in an equalizing goal in the 84th minute. After receiving the ball on the far right side deep in Lady Blue territory,
Alex Locke sent a cross to the opposite side of the field and was driven into the back of the net by
Giorgia Felicita to pull the Vikings even. The Augie defense fended off a last-second threat from Illinois College that saw a shot as time expired to walk away with the 1-1 tie.
Augustana out-shot Illinois College 15-7 in the game, with seven of those coming on target.
Liesl Whitener led the way with 10 looks at the net, five of which were on target.
Coe currently sits with an 0-3 mark, recently falling on the road on Saturday at Concordia-Chicago. The Cougars scored the first and only tally in the 62nd minute and held on to the shutout victory despite an even number in shots in the box score. The Kohawks are 0-1 on the season on their home field, with the lone game coming back on September 4, a 2-1 loss versus Edgewood. Coe finished last season with a 6-9-2 record.
Augie is 17-2-3 all-time against Coe. The Vikings won last season's meeting at home by a score of 3-0. Whitener scored twice in the win.
Start time on Wednesday is scheduled for 5 p.m.
