ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will host the first-place Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday, May 4 for Senior Day.
Augie currently sits at 22-12 overall and 9-3 in the CCIW, sitting alone in second place just behind Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings recently split a non-conference doubleheader at Dubuque on Wednesday, winning the finale 9-1 after dropping the opener. In the win, Augustana out-hit Dubuque 12-5, fueled by two hits each from
Claudia Buchholz and
McKensey Stontz.
Mikaylin Hofer picked up her third win of the season after going the distance on the mound.
Illinois Wesleyan currently sits at 25-9 on the year and 11-2 in the CCIW. The team plays Wheaton for doubleheader on Friday before closing the regular season out at Augie on Saturday. Prior to Friday's games at Wheaton, the Titans swept Carroll on Senior Day at home, out-scoring the Pioneers 26-0 across the two games. Illinois Wesleyan is led offensively by three players hitting over .400 on the year and has hit 24 home runs on the season as a team. Gianna Certa lead the team with a 1.30 ERA on the mound.Â
Saturday will be the 115th and 116th meeting between the two teams, with Illinois Wesleyan holding a 64-50 all-time advantage. The teams met four times a year ago, with the Titans taking all four, including a 4-3 extra-inning win to move onto the CCIW Tournament championship. The Vikings have lost 12 of their last 13 vs. the Titans and are seeking their first victory in the series since 2021. Illinois Wesleyan can clinch the CCIW outright championship with one win on Saturday, while the Vikings can take over first place with a sweep.
