WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The No. 3 seeded Augustana Vikings men's tennis team earned a win in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament on Thursday, defeating the No. 6 seeded Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a final of 5-0.
All three doubles matches went in favor of Augie to begin the match, highlighted by a pair of 8-3 wins from
Aingeru Garcia/
Gabriel Luna at No. 2 and
Nicolas Navarro/
Saman Rezaeyan at No. 3. All-Conference recipients
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga completed the sweep of doubles with an 8-6 defeat of their opponent at the top position. Augustana led 3-0 heading into singles.
The Vikings clinched the match win quickly in singles play with two 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 5 and No. 6 from
Timothee Philip and Navarro.
With the win, Augustana improves to 17-8 on the year. The team will face No. 2 seeded Carthage in the semifinals tomorrow at 1 p.m.
