MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team hosts the Carroll Pioneers on Friday for a single game and will follow with Senior Day on Saturday against the Carthage Firebirds. With a win over Carroll on Friday, the Vikings can clinch a spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament.
Augie owns a 21-15 overall record and 7-10 in conference play after winning a non-conference battle against Monmouth on Tuesday by a score of 13-8. In the win, the Vikings totaled eight hits, with two coming from Ethan Sosnowski, while Daniel Mosele and Alec McGinnis batted three runs in apiece. Addison Southwick earned the win on the mound with 1.2 innings pitched, and Riley Fuller secured the save with four innings pitched and seven strikeouts.Â
Carroll sits at 15-22 on the season and 7-12 in the CCIW and returns to action after falling 5-1 to Carthage on Wednesday. The Pioneers totaled five hits, with Joey Appino leading with two and batting the lone run in. Carroll owns a 7-9 away record, with their last road game being the loss against Carthage.Â
Augie holds a 52-22 all-time record over Carroll, with their last matchup resulting in a 7-4 victory for the Vikings earlier this season. Alex Simon, McGinnis, and Cole Green led Augie with two hits, while McGinnis batted two runs in.Â
On Saturday, the Vikings host a doubleheader for the final games of the regular season. The Firebirds own a 22-14 overall record so far this season and 9-9 in conference play after defeating Carroll 5-1 on Wednesday. Carthage totaled eight hits, with three individuals collecting two hits apiece, while two players batted two runs in apiece. The Firebirds hold an 8-6 away record, with their last road game resulting in a 19-9 loss in seven innings against Lawrence on Tuesday. Â
Carthage holds an 89-70 all-time record over Augie, with their last meeting concluding in an 8-7 victory for the Vikings on April 15, 2023. Augie collected 12 hits and Simon led the way with three.
