BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team dropped its first game of the CCIW Tournament on Friday, falling to the No. 1 seeded Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 6-2. Augie will take on Millikin at 6 p.m. in an elimination contest.
The Titans struck first in the opening inning after the first four batters reached base, capped off by a grand slam to make it a 4-0 game after one inning of action. The Vikings cut the deficit in half in after loading the bases in the fifth, seeing a pair of run-scoring singles by
Kennedy Williams and
Nadia Ranieri. The Titans added an insurance run in each of the fifth and sixth innings, fending off a late rally from the Vikings in the seventh.
Jennica Soliz added an RBI single to cut the deficit to three, but Augie stranded runners at the corners to end the game.
McKensey Stontz and Ranieri each notched two hits at the plate for Augustana.
The Vikings will take on the Millikin Big Blue at 6 p.m. for a trip to the CCIW title game.
