Women’s lacrosse returns home for mid-week conference battle against Elmhurst

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team returns home for a mid-week conference battle against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday, April 10.

The Vikings sit at 1-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference play after an 18-9 loss against North Central in the conference opener on Saturday. Madison Langewisch kicked off the game with the first goal and notched another to obtain the 2-0 advantage. Elena Bechard secured another goal to close out the first period 3-3. In the second period, North Central pulled away from Augie with a 7-0 frame to make a 10-3 score to enter the halftime break.

Returning from the break, the Cardinals tallied three more, while Augie grabbed two from Kyla Painter and Langewisch in a woman-up position to make a 13-5 at the end of the third period. In the final 15 minutes of action, the Cardinals outscored Augie 5-4 with Lambert, Painter, and Anna Erickson collecting one before Bechard grabbed a buzzer-beater shot to conclude the game 18-9. 

Langewisch led the Vikings with three goals, while Bechard and Painter followed with two. Rachel Wylie had five ground balls, while Narita Lambert caused three turnovers and Langewisch won three draw controls. 

Elmhurst owns a 2-6 record on the season and 0-1 in the CCIW, and returns to action after falling 20-1 to Carthage on Saturday. As a team, the Bluejays made one of their six attempts coming from Gracie Eastman. Eastman caused one turnover and Andrea Murtland won five draw controls. Elmhurst has a 2-2 away record this season, with their last away game being the loss against Carthage. Augie holds an 8-0 all-time record over the Bluejays, with Augie grabbing a 13-6 victory in the most recent outing. 

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
