Box Score 2 ERIE, Pa. -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team moved its win streak to nine games on Sunday and wrapped up the regular season undefeated in the CWPA, defeating the Wheaton Lyons by a score of 27-2 before knocking off the Grove City Wolverines by a final of 17-5.
It was all Augie in game one against Wheaton, with the Vikings racing out to a 13-0 advantage after eight minutes of action. Three different players notched multiple scores in the opening quarter, led by four each from
Casey Barragan and
Alayna Ickert. Augie continued to hold the Lyons scoreless in the second and added five more to its total to make it an 18-0 game at the break.
Jersey Merrick notched a pair of goals in the frame.
Augustana kept its shutout in tact through the third quarter, contributing five more to its total to make it a 23-0 game entering the fourth. Merrick notched three more goals in the period to give her five for the game. Four different Vikings scored in the final eight minutes to seal the 27-2 win.
Ickert led the team with six goals, followed by Merrick with five and Barragan with four. A total of 13 players secured at least one assists, led by
Carli Udovich's four.
In game two against the Wolverines, the Vikings raced out to a 5-1 differential after eight minutes of played, fueled by strikes from four different players. Augie mirrored its first-quarter production with five more in the second to bring a 10-3 advantage into halftime.
Charlotte Newport led the charge with three goals at the break.
In a low-scoring third period, the Vikings out-scored the Wolverines 3-1 to extend the margin out to nine. Udovich tallied a pair of goals into the net in the fourth to help wrap up the 17-5 win for Augustana.
A total of 10 Vikings scored in the win, led by three goals apiece from Newport and Udovich.
Natalie Abril stopped 10 shots in net.
With the win, Augie improves to 16-3 on the year and secures the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CWPA Tournament set to begin on April 19.
