MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team fell to the Wheaton Thunder on Thursday by a score of 15-7.
The Thunder started the game with five runs in the second inning before Augie tallied one of their own after Cole Green singled down the left-field line. In the third inning, Wheaton put another run up before the Vikings notched four of their own. Grant Biggins was first to bring a runner in with his run-scoring single, followed by Dymitri Kanellakis scoring on a throwing error by the Thunder. Colton Davis singled with bases loaded to send in the third run of the inning and Green got hit by a pitch to allow another to cross home plate. Augie trailed 6-5 after three innings of play.
Wheaton got one back in the fifth, but a Michael Aragon sacrifice fly brought the differential back down to one in the bottom half. In the sixth inning, Augie tied the game at 7-7 after a Thunder error, but Wheaton secured eight runs in the final three innings to take the game 15-7.
Green led the Vikings with three hits and two runs batted in, while four others notched multi-hit games.
With the loss, Augie moves to 18-15 on the season and 5-10 in conference play. The Vikings will return for a doubleheader at Wheaton on Saturday, April 27 starting at 1 p.m.
