PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will visit the UW-Platteville Pioneers for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 25.
Augustana currently sits at 18-10 overall, recently coming off a two-game sweep of Carroll over the weekend on the road. After three innings of scoreless play in game one,
Brooke Hartzell broke the deadlock with a bases-clearing double in the fourth, which proved to be enough as the team held on for the 3-1 victory. Augie again struck first in game two with another three-spot, this time coming in the second inning. A bases-loaded walk issued to
Jennica Soliz brought in the first allied before
McKensey Stontz brought in two more with a double.
Ashlyn Mathers homered in the fourth drive in two and Stontz added another RBI in the sixth to help lead the team to a 6-1 win.
Nadia Ranieri was named the CCIW Hitter of the Week on Monday after going 8-13 at the plate across four games last week.
UW-Platteville enters Thursday with a 21-9 overall record, but is currently enduring a six-game losing streak after beginning the season with wins in 21 of its first 24 contests. In their most recent outing, the Pioneers dropped a home doubleheader to the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, losing the opener 10-1 before falling 1-0 in the finale. The games were the team's first at home since March 29, where they own a 3-3 record. Prior to the series with Whitewater, Platteville had won three in a row on its home field, including victories over Loras and Buena Vista.
The Vikings are 19-6 all-time against the Pioneers and will meet on Thursday for the third season in a row. The two teams split a doubleheader last year in Rock Island.Â
Start time for game one on Thursday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
