EUREKA, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team will play a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday, April 17 when they take on the Eureka Red Devils on the road.
Augustana currently sits 14-8 on the year and is coming off a 5-1 record a week ago that included three wins over conference foes. In their most recent outing on Saturday, the Vikings bounced back from a 7-5 defeat to Carthage with a 4-1 victory in the finale.
Morgan Bielfeldt broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a solo home run, but the Firebirds earned it back in the sixth on a three-base error.
Nadia Ranieri notched the game-winning hit in the bottom half of the inning with a three-double to left field, while
Lauren Koster pitched a scoreless seventh to hang on for the win.
Eureka enters Wednesday with a 9-17 overall record, recently snapping an 11-game losing streak on Saturday with a 12-3 victory over Lyon. The Red Devils faced a 3-1 deficit after the first inning, but used a two-run second to pull even before breaking it open with a six-spot in the fourth. The team added three more in the fifth to win via run rule. Eureka is 2-7 on its home field this season, with both wins coming against Mount Mary in a doubleheader back on March 23. This will the Red Devils' second matchup with a CCIW opponent this season, splitting a pair of contests with Wheaton on March 27.
Augustana is 7-1 all-time against Eureka. Start time for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
