ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team earned its second straight conference win at home on Saturday, defeating the Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 9-0 from Lincoln Park.
The Vikings claimed all three doubles matches, beginning with a swift 8-0 victory at No. 2 from
Gabriel Luna and
Timothee Philip. At No. 3,
Nicolas Navarro and
Saman Rezaeyan coasted to an 8-3 win, while
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga squeaked out an 8-6 triumph at No. 1. Augustana lead 3-0 heading into singles play.
In singles, Augie earned two quick wins at No. 2 from Luna and No. 5 from Navarro. Luna won both sets by a score of 6-1, while Navarro took the first set by an identical score before rolling to 6-0 second set victory. Rezaeyan earned a straight-set win at No. 3 by a score of 6-3, 6-2, also joined by
Deepak Vayara at No. 6 with a two-set victory. Hermange at No. 1 and Philip at No. 4 both fought back from opening-set defeats to earn wins, each taking down their counterparts in a tiebreaker.Â
With the win, Augustana improves to 14-6 on the season and 3-2 in the CCIW. The team will be back in action for Senior Day matches against Loras and Carroll.
