BELOIT, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team heads north for a non-conference showdown against the Beloit Buccaneers on Thursday, March 7.
The Vikings sit at 1-1 on the season and return to action after dominating Franklin 19-8 on Saturday. Madison Langewisch started the game by winning the draw control, taking it right to the net to secure the game's first goal, and the Vikings followed with another point 90 seconds later. Co-Defensive Player of the Week Kyla Painter scored while being a woman up before Langewisch with a woman down. The Vikings scored three more times in the first period to make a 7-3 score. In a low-scoring second frame, Franklin secured two goals before Augie obtained two of their own to increase their gap to four and take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Franklin scored first after the break until goals from Anna Erickson and Langewisch maintained the Vikings' cushion. The Grizzlies grabbed a goal, but Elena Bechard grabbed the final two points in the period to increase the gap to six. In the last 15 minutes of play, Bechard secured the first three goals to begin the fourth. Anna Davison scored with 5:05 remaining and Bechard notched another to move the scoring difference to 10. Langewisch closed the game with a pass from Narita Lambert to seal the 19-8 final score.
Beloit owns a 1-1 record on the season, with both games coming at home. The Buccaneers return to action after falling 15-6 to Cornell on Saturday. As a team, Beloit scored six goals out of their 20 attempts, with Johanna McNair and Cassidy Felix leading with two goals. The Buccaneers also had nine caused turnovers and 13 draw controls won. Augie holds a 3-0 all-time record over Beloit, with their last matchup being on March 26, 2022, a 16-4 victory for the Vikings.
