ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on its first day of action down in Florida on Monday, falling to the Union Dutchwomen by a score of 8-1 before narrowly dropping to the St. Olaf Oles by a final of 5-4.
In match one, Union took the first two doubles matches of the contest, but
Caitlyn Hanulikova and
Hannah Colbert salvaged a point for the Vikings with a tiebreaker win at the No. 1 spot. Union ran away with the match after taking all six singles contests to complete the 8-1 victory.
In the second showdown of the day against undefeated St. Olaf, the Vikings grabbed the early lead with wins in two of three at doubles. The No. 1 duo of Hanulikova and Colbert won their match by a score of 8-4, while
Ava Lannen and
Mia Reese won at No. 3 by an identical score. Augie led 2-1 heading into singles.
St. Olaf charged back to steal the match with wins in four of six singles contests.
Anna-Maria Huebel earned a point for Augie with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Colbert won a third-set tiebreaker to earn the other victory for the Vikings.
With the losses, Augustana drops to 6-10 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow vs. SUNY New Paltz and Whitworth.
