ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team hosts the Franklin Grizzlies on Saturday, March 2.
The Vikings sit at 0-1 on the season and return to action after a 21-5 loss against the Cornell Rams last Saturday. Cornell scored six times in the opening quarter, while holding Augie scoreless. The Rams scored three more times in the second before Madison Langewisch got the Vikings on the board with the team's first point. Elena Bechard sent in the second goal for the Vikings, but Augie trailed 12-2 at the break.
Augie kicked off the third quarter with a goal from Colleen Chiavola before Langewisch got her second goal of the contest. In the final period, Taylor Ackland scored with a free-position shot, but Cornell secured the game's final five points to take the 21-5 win.
Franklin will open their season on Saturday after finishing the 2023 season with a 9-6 overall record and a 4-2 record on the road. Augie holds a 1-0 all-time record over the Grizzlies, with their game last season resulting in a 20-10 road victory for the Vikings. Bechard led the Vikings with seven goals and Langewisch followed with six. Augie caused 13 turnovers and grabbed 19 ground balls, paced in both categories by Narita Lambert with four and five, respectively. Franklin returns Bella Frye, who is the top returning scorer from last season after finishing with 16 goals.
Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m from Thorson-Lucken Field.
