Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team wrapped up the Illinois College Invitational on Sunday, dominating the Simpson Storm by a score of 18-2.
The Vikings scored first in the second inning after Dymitri Kanellakis singled and Grant Biggins hit a triple into center field to bring Kanellakis home. Biggins advanced home after a single to right field by Charlie Bergin to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Augie kept their scoring streak alive in the third inning as the first five base runners reached by either a walk or hit by pitch. Alex Simon ran home after another single by Bergin before Michael Aragon brought home Biggins after a single. Bergin and Aragon advanced after an error and a wild pitch brought Bergin home. Daniel Mosele smacked a double to center field to bring Aragon home as the Vikings entered the fourth inning up by nine.
The Vikings added four more in the fourth to make it a 13-0 game. Augie's first five hitters once again reached by either a walk or hit by pitch. Alec McGinnis and Simon crossed home plate due to walks, while a single from Aragon concluded the four-run innings with two more tallies.
Simpson earned a run in the bottom of the fourth but Augie followed with two more in the fifth. Simon was first on base for the Vikings after getting hit by the pitch before a double by Kanellakis advanced Simon to third. An RBI groundout followed prior to Bergin bringing in another with a single. The Storm answered with two in the bottom half to make it 15-3 after five innings of play.
Augustana added its final three in the sixth on a three-run inside-the-park home run by Cole Green and Augie closed out the game with two scoreless innings defensively to wrap up the win in seven innings by run rule.
Bergin led the Vikings with three hits, with Kanellakis, Aragon, and Mosele following with two. Chance Carruthers earned the win on the mound.
With the win, Augie moves to 4-1 on the season.
