STERLING, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team picked up a home win over the UW-Stevens Point Pointers on Saturday, claiming all nine matches for the 9-0 victory.
Augie took the early advantage in the match after winning all three doubles contests.
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga were victorious at No. 1, defeating their opponent 8-3, while
Saman Rezaeyan and
Nicolas Navarro cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
Gabriel Luna and
Timothee Philip completed the perfect showing in doubles after edging their counterpart at No. 2 with an 8-7 (2) triumph.
In singles, five of the six contests went to the Vikings in straight sets. Philip went without dropping a game at No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Larraga had a successful outcome at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Hermange, Rezaeyan, and Navarro also earned wins in two sets. The final match of the day at No. 3 resulted in a three-set victory for Luna as he completed the 6-7, 6-3, 12-10 comeback win.
With the victory, the Vikings improve to 4-2 on the season. The team will be back in action next Saturday at Hope.
