CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team was defeated on Friday by the North Park Vikings, falling on the road by a score of 3-0.
After North Park earned a 25-9 win in the opening set, the two teams played to a thrilling second frame that resulted in a 31-29 victory for the home Vikings. Each squad went back and forth to begin the game, with neither team holding a lead of more than two until North Park took an 11-8 advantage following a 5-0 scoring run. The margin stretched out to four on three different occasions for North Park, but Augie stormed back later in the set with a 4-0 run of its own to even the score at 18. The home team broke away from the deadlock and found themselves with four straight set point situations, but Augustana used a 5-0 scoring run to turn a 24-20 deficit into set point for itself. North Park eventually snagged four of the final five points to secure the two-point victory, followed by a 25-11 win in the third to complete the 3-0 decision.
Emily Schipper led the team with seven kills and also collected 10 digs to give her over 1,000 for her career. She is the sixth player in Augustana program history to accumulate both 1,000 career kills and digs.
With the loss, Augustana drops to 10-17 overall and 2-5 in the CCIW. The team will be back in action Wednesday vs. Carthage.
