ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will hit the road for the final game of the season against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday, October 30.
The Vikings enter the contest with an overall record of 5-7-1 and 2-5 in CCIW play and return to action after falling to Millikin on Saturday by a score of 1-0. The Vikings had a strong showing of defense in the first half, fending off Millikin's five shots to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. Augie fired off three of its own, with one on target, but the two teams remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action. Returning to the field, the 0-0 deadlock remained intact until 12 minutes left in the period when the Big Blue collected the lone goal of the contest to take the 1-0 advantage.
Luis Garcia, Ben Statz, and Diego San Pedro led Augie with two shots, while Benjamin Samuelson collected seven saves in his 90 minutes in goal.
Elmhurst sits at 6-9-3 on the season and 0-6-1 in conference action after falling to Carthage Saturday by a score of 3-0. Three different athletes had two shots on target for the Bluejays, while Niyen Ruffin secured seven saves in goal. Elmhurst has a 3-4 home record with their last home matchup resulting in a 1-1 tie with Illinois Wesleyan on October 19.
The Bluejays hold a 14-4-2 all-time series record over Augie. Elmhurst won last season's meeting at Augustana by a score of 5-1.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
