ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team fell to the Grinnell Pioneers on Saturday by a score of 4-2.
The Pioneers were first to get on the board after nearly four minutes of action before notching another goal 19 minutes later to take an early 2-0 advantage. Rayane Haidi scored the Vikings' first goal nearly 10 minutes later to create a 2-1 game. Grinnell tallied another point at 39:45 to increase the gap to 3-1. The Pioneers out-shot Augie 8-6 and led by the 3-1 score after 45 minutes of action.
Returning to the field, the Vikings had a strong showing on defense, fending off Grinnell's pressure until nearly 15 minutes remaining in the game. The Pioneers added to its total in the 75th minute before Gonzalo Alberola notched one of his own five minutes later to make it a 4-2 game.
Alberola, Toby Dottin, Alex Sanchez Collado, and Haidi collected two shots on target, while Benjamin Samuelson notched six saves in his 90 minutes in goal.
With the loss, Augie moves to 4-6-1 on the season and will be in action on Wednesday, October 23 for a midweek battle against Carthage.
