Men’s soccer stays on the road to face Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will stay on the road for a conference battle against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Wednesday, October 16.

The Vikings enter the contest with an overall record of 4-4-1 and 1-3 in conference action. Augie returns to action after falling to Wheaton on Saturday by a score of 2-0. The Thunder put up two points in the first 22 minutes of action. Both teams attempted seven shots in the first half, with two from Gonzalo Alberola and Toby Dottin and one each by Ben Statz, Ismail Bennani, and Fer Cuahquentzi.

Returning to the field, the Vikings had a strong showing on defense, fending off 10 shots to keep the Thunder at just the two goals. On Augie's offensive side, Dottin, Alberola, and Rayane Haidi each collected shots in the final 45 minutes to allow Wheaton to secure the 2-0 win.

Illinois Wesleyan sits at 8-1-2 on the season and 2-1 in the CCIW after falling to North Park on Saturday by a score of 2-0. Kalabi Kamau led the Titans with the lone shot on target, while four others including Kamau attempted two shots and Sam Kedzior notched nine saves in his 90 minutes in goal. Illinois Wesleyan is undefeated on their home territory with a 6-0 record and their most recent home matchup was a 5-4 victory over Carthage on October 5.

Augie holds an 18-16-3 all-time series record over the Titans. Illinois Wesleyan won last season's meeting in Bloomington by a score of 3-0. 

Kickoff is scheduled for 7  p.m.
