ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team was defeated in a close contest by the Carroll Pioneers on Saturday, falling by a score of 2-0.
Augie earned the doubles point after wins in two of the three matches.
Hannah Colbert and
Colleen Larry played a flawless contest at the No. 1 position, defeating their counterpart 6-0.
Maddy Harned and
Hattie Timerman clinched the point for the Vikings with a 6-3 victory at No. 3. Augustana led 1-0 heading into singles.Â
The Pioneers inched back to eventually tie the match at 3-3. Augie picked up wins at the No. 4 slot with a 6-2, 6-2 decision by
Maitreyi Shrikhande, as well as a 6-4, 6-4 triumph by Timerman at No. 6. Carroll clinched the deciding match in a three-set thriller at No. 5 to escape with the 4-3 victory.
With the loss, the Vikings drop to 3-4 overall and 3-4 in the CCIW. The team will close out conference play tomorrow afternoon at home vs. Carthage.
