STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the weekend on Friday, falling to the UW-Stout Blue Devils and UW-Stevens Point Pointers each by a score of 3-0.
Augie battled tough in the opening set vs. Stout, erasing a late seven-point deficit with seven straight points to even the score at 20-20. The two teams went back and forth down the stretch and the Vikings fended off set point with a kill by
Carmela Carbone to make it a 24-24 tie, but the Blue Devils notched the final two rally wins to escape with the two-point win. UW-Stout took set two by a final of 25-9 and set three by a score of 25-21 to complete the 3-0 victory.
Emily Schipper led the way for Augustana with seven kills, while Carbone and
Carli Udovich each had five.
Against the Pointers, the home team took the opener by a score of 25-8 before taking the final two by scores of 25-14 and 25-15. Schipper again was the leader in kills for Augustana with eight. Carbone added three blocks.
With the losses, the Vikings drop to 7-13 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow vs. No. 7 UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire.
