Women's volleyball falls to Oshkosh, Eau Claire

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the weekend on Saturday to No. 7 UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire both by a score of 3-0.

The Vikings first fell to the No. 7 ranked Titans, beginning with a 25-15 set one loss. Augie played closer to Oshkosh in the final two sets, but late surges allowed the Titans to pull away and seal the 3-0 win. Emily Schipper had 11 kills in the match, while Carmela Carbone added six to go with a pair of blocks. Alexis Richards led the team with 20 digs.

Against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire, the Vikings battled to three close sets, beginning with a 25-23 loss to begin the match followed by a 25-22 defeat. In the third, the two teams played a back-and-forth first set before Eau Claire pulled away to make it a 23-18 advantage. Augie raced back to cut the deficit within one following a 4-0 spurt, fueled a kill by Kylie Collachia and Schipper, but the Blugolds found themselves at set point with a point during the ensuing rally. The Vikings continued using their momentum with consecutive kills from Schipper and Leah Rizzo to draw even at 24 but were unable to pull ahead as Eau Claire grabbed the next two and take the match win.

Schipper hit .295 in the loss with 18 kills, while Collachia averaged 10 assists per set finishing with 30. Ashley Awbrey was named to the Papa John's Invite All-Tournament Team following the four-match weekend.

With the losses, Augustana drops to 7-15 on the season and will be back in action Thursday at home vs. Webster.
