ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will be back home at the Carver Center on Wednesday, January 24 when they host the Elmhurst Bluejays in a CCIW clash.

Augustana currently sits at 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the CCIW, recently coming off a 70-69 overtime road victory at North Park on Saturday. Augie got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first seven points, but the home team Vikings mirrored the effort with seven points in a row to deadlock the contest and eventually took their first lead of the contest at 11-9. North Park never lost its advantage the rest of the half, growing it out to as many as six on five different occasions, with the latest coming around the two-minute mark at a score of 28-22. A jumper from Colton Gillingham and a made three by Anthony Cooper inched Augie closer and within a point, but a good three from North Park with 22 seconds left brought the halftime margin to 31-27.

The home team Vikings saw their biggest cushion of the contest early in the second, knocking down the first two shots for an eight-point lead. Augie remained within striking distance and eventually got within in a single possession around the 12-minute mark and again at five minutes. With 60 seconds to go, North Park stretch its slight lead out to three on a made jumper, setting up one final chance for the Vikings to even the score. In their final possession, Augie saw two missed chances, but kept hopes alive with a pair of offensive rebounds. With nine seconds showing on the clock, Chase Larsen was fouled on the third three-point attempt of the possession and sank all three shots to force overtime.

A layup from Larsen to kick off the extra period gave Augie its first lead since they scored the first seven points of the game. North Park answered with five points in a row, but an Evan Ambrose basket and free throws from Larsen put Augie back out in front. With less than five seconds remaining, Larsen dribbled a few steps inside the three-point line and drilled a pull-up jumper to give Augustana a 70-69 lead. A last-second heave from North Park was narrowly off the mark, giving Augie the come-from-behind win. Larsen secured a double-double to lead the Vikings in the win, notching 18 points to go with 11 rebounds. Hamilton and Hawkins both added nine to lead a balanced attack, with Hamilton also grabbing 10 boards and dishing out five assists.

Elmhurst enters Wednesday with a 15-3 overall record and 7-2 mark in conference. The Bluejays recently picked up their second straight victory, defeating Millikin at home by a score of 61-53. Elmhurst currently sits in second place in the CCIW and are led by four double-figure scorers, including John Ittounas at 18 points per contest. Center Jonathan Zapinski also sits at 11 points and eight rebounds per outing and was recently named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week. Elmhurst is 6-2 on the road this season, but dropped its last game away from home back on January 13 at Wheaton.

Wednesday will be the second meeting of the season and also in the past seven days. The Bluejays won last week's contest in Elmhurst by a score of 80-59. Three Vikings scored 12 points in the defeat. Augustana leads the all-time series between the two 99-52, but Elmhurst has won six of the last seven encounters.
