ROCK ISLAND -- Nick Harper of Augustana Vikings football has snagged his second All-American award this season after being named to the 2023 Hansen Ratings All-America Teams that were announced on Monday.
Also a D3Football.com All-American selection, Harper was named to Hansen Ratings Third Team on New Year's Day after notching Second Team All-CCIW and First Team All-Region (D3Football) this season. He led the conference in interceptions with six in nine games played, ranked fourth on the Vikings in tackles with 48, and was tied for third in solo tackles with 34. He also added nine pass breakups and 2.5 tackles for loss. Harper is Augustana's first All-American in football since Erik Westerberg in 2013. He is also the first defensive back at Augustana to be named an All-American since Jason Fosdick in 1999. Additionally, Harper also grabbed First Team All-Region with Hansen Ratings.
Five other members of the team were selected to the Hansen Ratings All-Region team, beginning with
Darren Oregon on Second Team. Oregon played on the other side of Harper and was second on the team and CCIW in interceptions with four. Two of his picks were returned for touchdowns and also ended second on the team in solo tackles with 47.
Tim Swaney highlighted four Vikings on Third Team at the linebacker position. The First Team All-CCIW selection led Augie in tackles and was fourth in the league and 11th in tackles for loss. He also sat third on the Vikings in sacks. On offense,
Tyler Rivelli also grabbed All-Region honors. The senior running back ran for over 1,000 yards this season and had 11 touchdowns on the ground. He ranked third in the CCIW in yards and fourth in touchdowns.
From the specialist position, both
Bobby Inserra and
Sidney Maroon landed on Third Team All-Region as well. Inserra was the conference's top punt returner with an average of 18.8 and had two touchdowns on the season. He also sat second in total punt return yards in the conference despite playing in four fewer games than the top spot. At kicker, Maroon finished the season 8-9 in field goals and was second in the league in both field goal percentage and makes.
