ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team will be back at home for Senior Day on Saturday, September 30 when they host the Carthage Firebirds at Thorson-Lucken Field.
Augie holds a record of 0-6-2 and is coming off a 3-0 defeat by Coe on Tuesday. Coe took the lead 10 minutes into this and kept the pressure on the Vikings, out-shooting Augie 11-1 in the first half. Augustana fended off multiple scoring chances from the home team throughout the first 45 minutes, but the Kohawks successfully connected on one more score right before the break, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Vikings saw more offensive opportunities in the second half, posting three shot attempts, but could not get any to hit the back of the net. Coe added one more tally in the 71st minute to complete the 3-0 victory. Four different Vikings tallied a shot in the contest, with
Ethan Wheeler registering the lone strike on target.
Frankie Baio notched six saves in net.
Carthage enters Saturday with a 6-2-1 record overall and 1-0-1 mark in CCIW action. The Firebirds recently defeated Carroll at home by a score of 5-3 to move their unbeaten streak to two games, earning a draw with Illinois Wesleyan in the game prior. Both of Carthage's losses this season have been on the road.
Augustana is 11-14-2 all-time against Carthage. The Firebirds have won six of the last seven meetings, including last season's 3-0 win in Kenosha.
