MOLINE, Ill. – The No. 17 ranked Augustana baseball team will host the 2023 CCIW Tournament from May 10-13 at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field. The No. 1 seeded Vikings open the conference tournament on Wednesday against the No. 6-seeded Carroll Pioneers in a rematch of last weekend's doubleheader, where Augie claimed both games.

Augie ended their regular-season schedule 34-6 overall, 16-2 in conference, and carries a 16-game winning streak into postseason play. The Vikings recently returned from a three-game road trip from May 5-6, opening the weekend with an 8-1 victory over Wheaton before securing both games against Carroll on Saturday. Game one of the doubleheader was a 20-1 battering of the Pioneers, with Josh Wintroub earning his sixth win of the season after pitching five innings and allowing only one run on one hit with nine strikeouts. The Vikings outhit the home team 22-2, led by McGinnis' game-high six RBI to go with his 4-4 effort from the plate. Augie found themselves down early in game two as Carroll jumped to a 4-0 lead after one. Following three scoreless innings from both teams, the Vikings broke the silence by plating three runs in the fifth but saw a two-run home run in response from the Pioneers as they built back a three-run cushion at 6-3. Augustana rallied with six runs in the sixth, including a three-run home run from Chase Maifield to put the game at its eventual 9-6 final. Jacob Ruesch entered in the fifth inning and blanked the Carroll offensive, earning his sixth win of the season with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Maifield led the Vikings' 10-hit attack with three hits and three runs batted in.

Carroll enters as the No. 6 seed with their 16-21 record and 8-10 mark in conference play. Augustana holds a 50-23 edge over the Pioneers in the all-time series.

The victor of game one between Augustana and Carroll will move on to face the loser of game three between No. 3-seeded Millikin and No. 4-seeded North Park. The club that takes the loss will play the opening game on Thursday against the loser of No. 2-seeded North Central and No. 5-seeded Illinois Wesleyan.

Augustana won the tournament in Naperville, Ill. a year ago, with a 10-9 victory against North Central in 14 innings, and advanced to the NCAA Regional  in Whitewater, Wis. The Vikings are making their 25th tournament appearance and are seeking their fifth title.
