ELMHURST, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team travels for a conference battle against the Elmhurst Bluejays on Wednesday, April 26.
Augie holds a 5-7 record, 0-4 in conference, and is coming off a 15-8 Senior Day defeat to North Central on Saturday, April 22. Following a pair of goals from the Cardinals to open the game, Madison Langewisch netted a goal at 12:31 to cut the lead to 2-1. North Central sent in three-straight scores before Cassidy Petrie halted the run with consecutive goals to move the score to 5-3 at the end of the first. Both teams scored back-to-back goals in the second period, giving North Central a 9-5 lead at the break. The Cardinals added one out of the half before Langewisch scored at 8:39 to trim the deficit to four. North Central broke the game open with two goals in a row to close the third and three more unanswered strikes to begin the fourth to put the game out of reach. Petrie and Langewisch accounted for the Vikings' final two goals to bring the score to its 15-8 final.
The Bluejays possess an 0-10 record, 0-4 in conference, and are coming off a 22-4 road defeat to Illinois Wesleyan on Monday, April 24. The Titans jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Elmhurst cut the lead to two with a strike at 11:26 in the first quarter. Following an exchange of scores between the two teams, Illinois Wesleyan sent in two more strikes to push the advantage to 6-2. The Bluejays scored again at 8:48 and 5:17 in the second frame but endured five goals from the Titans to enter the half down by seven. Illinois Wesleyan silenced the Bluejays in the second half, outscoring the road team 11-0 to put the game at its 22-4 final. Andrea Murtland led the Bluejays' attack with three goals on four shots.
Augustana controls a 7-0 advantage against Elmhurst in the all-time series, with the most recent meeting between the two teams resulting in a 20-12 road win for the Vikings on March 27, 2022. Augie edged the Bluejays 2-1 in the opening period before erupting for seven goals in the second to take a 9-4 lead into the intermission. In the second half, the Vikings maintained their pace, outscoring the host team 11-8 to record a season-high 20 goals and secure their lone conference victory. Petrie nabbed four scores, while Claire Kim finished with three.
