WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team wrapped up their regular season on Sunday in Wisconsin, defeating the Carroll Pioneers by a score of 8-1.
Augustana jumped out to a 3-0 lead following a clean sweep of doubles.
Arthur Hermange and
Gabriel Luna were victorious at the No. 1 spot, winning by a score of 8-4, while the No. 2 match went in favor of
Nicolas Navarro and
Quentin Essayie with an 8-5 final.
Timothee Philip and
Gustavo Fontenelle earned an 8-3 triumph at the No. 3 slot.
In singles, five of the six matches were won by Augustana. Hermange fought back from a first-set defeat at the No. 1 position, eventually taking the match 2-6, 6-3, 10-7. Essayie grabbed a win at No. 3, while Luna posted identical 6-1 set wins in his victory at No. 4. Philip did not lose a game at No. 5, boasting a 6-0, 6-0 performance, joined by Fontenelle at No. 6 as the other Augie player to win a set without dropping a game. Fontenelle defeated his opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-0.
With the victory, the Vikings improve to 11-6 on the season and finish the CCIW schedule with a 4-3 record. Augustana has earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming CCIW Tournament and will play No. 4 seeded Wheaton on Thursday, April 27 in Wheaton, Ill. Start time is still to be announced.
